Some excellent typographic student work by designer Alpkan Kirayoglu based in Istanbul.
Baron is a modern display family inspired by superellipse typefaces by Hermann Zapf such as Melior and Zapf Elliptical. Intended to be used in large sizes, Baron tries to differ from early pointed pen models with its terminals and symmetric counters. My main goal was creating a contemporary looking typeface by making the look and rational of pointed pen writing more mechanical. This approach was later balanced with the humanism of leaf-like terminals. Grand Baron display family comes in a regular, an italic, and a bold style.
